R is for Romeo

Nuevo proyecto online!

New project online! This time for R, one of the leading cable providers in Spain. Done in collaboration with the cool professionals at Tresdeseos. Enjoy!

Cineuropa

Vector Magic

I just came across a free online vectorizer that basically puts Adobe Illustrator's live trace to shame. I'm a huge fan of Adobe's tracer ever since Streamline, and now it's easier than ever to vectorize raster images inside Illustrator, with just a single click. But oh man, this one simply ROCKS.

Behold Vector Magic, created by the Stanford University. Right below is the result of a quick test.

Please note, both Illustrator and Vector Magic were set to "High fidelity photograph". As you can see, not only Vector Magic produces 84.000 (!!!) points less than Illustrator, it also interprets color waaaay better, and what about those shirt lines? While Illustrator creates ragged ones, just check the ones by Vector Magic. If this image is not enough, go check more comparisons.

I still have to test it better and with pure lines instead of photographs, but woohoo - I'm in love.

VECTOR MAGIC - go check it!!

(on a side note, I'm busy as hell, more updates... soonish?)

October Rust

Now that Autumn has finally kicked in, I can't think of a better band/album to enjoy it. Type O Negative, friends. It was 1996 and T.O.N. mainman Peter Steele revealed that their new album was going to be a take on poppy goth rock further expanding their melodic sound.

Many T.O.N. diehard fans don't see this album as nowhere near their best, not even close to Bloody Kisses (and the terribly mainstream "My girlfriend's girlfriend" - youtube - didn't help either), but it's a great, great album anyway. Actually I can't think of any T.O.N. release that sucked. Solid album, great band. Give it a try!

Also, the cover artwork was made by graphic design master, Mr. Stefan Sagmeister.

A must.

One line drawings

Nice works by different artists who let just one line (!) do the job. Nice, indeed.

Art. Lebedev Studio strikes back...

... with another piece open to discussion.

It's called the "Pultius TV remote control", a massive 300 buttons remote control. It's big, it's not that beautiful, and it sure wastes a lot of precious space. But hey, if you're a TV junkie and are always looking to spend as little energy as possible, it may be for you. I know it's not for me.

I still like their Optimus Maximus keyboard's concept, but at that price (around 1250€ !!!!), I think I can live without one. Not that slick either...

Sony Bravia ripping Kozyndan off?

So Sony Bravia released a new ad. And it's nice, real nice, just as the first and second ones (sorry, youtube links).

But the thing is that they seem to have stolen the idea behind one of Kozyndan's first panoramics:

Not only that, they actually asked them to hand over some concept art a couple years ago and then didn't contact them ever again, as they mention in their blog.

This brings up many questions related to intellectual property, like "can you register the idea of a city flooded with bunnies?". But I won't get into that. The ad rules, but it's obvious where the idea came from, and it's quite pathetic to steal stuff like that.

It indeed is a ripper's world, ain't it? (I'm holding my fingers here not to give away more samples of this lately overused... "technique"...)
